You will find it everywhere in wellness spaces: the Schumann resonance — "Earth's heartbeat" — is spiking to new frequencies and raising human consciousness, and you can tune your brain to 7.83 Hz to heal. It is a near-perfect test case, because it is a real, measured, computable physical phenomenon wrapped in an ascension myth — with a genuinely open question in between.
And the whole thing turns on a number you can compute from the size of the planet.
▽ run the numbersTake the honest core first. The Earth's surface and the charged underside of the ionosphere, roughly 60–100 km up, form a giant spherical cavity — a thin shell of air between two conductors. Lightning, striking somewhere on Earth dozens of times every second, rings that cavity like a bell.
The lowest note is the frequency of an electromagnetic wave whose wavelength wraps exactly once around the planet's circumference, with $c$ the speed of light:
Drop in the Earth's radius, $R \approx 6371\text{ km}$, and $c \approx 3\times10^5\text{ km/s}$: $\,f_1 \approx 7.5\text{ Hz}$ — within a few percent of the observed 7.83 Hz. (The small gap is the real, lossy ionosphere; the perfect-cavity model is only a first approximation.) It is real: the Schumann resonances are measured continuously, worldwide, every day. No mysticism required — and no fakery either.
Now the tell for the overclaim. Drag the radius. The frequency is pure geometry — every planet has its own; Mars would ring near 14 Hz. A number pinned by the speed of light and the size of the Earth does not drift with the mood of humanity.

Signal. Predicted by Winfried Schumann in 1952, first measured in 1960, and monitored continuously ever since: a ≈7.83 Hz fundamental with harmonics near 14.3, 20.8, 27.3 Hz, excited by global lightning in the Earth–ionosphere cavity.
Kill test. Compute the fundamental from Earth's radius, then compare to the measurement. $c/2\pi R \approx 7.5$ Hz vs. 7.83 Hz. It survives — the physics is settled.
↳ run the calculator aboveSignal. The fundamental (~7.83 Hz) sits just inside the brain's alpha band (8–12 Hz) — a real, if suggestive, overlap; there is legitimate, inconclusive research on extremely-low-frequency fields and circadian rhythm.
Unresolved. Whether an ELF field that weak measurably affects human physiology is genuinely undecided — most careful studies find null or tiny effects, but the question is still studied.
Kill test. Controlled exposure trials on EEG and circadian markers. So far: mostly null, occasionally suggestive — which is exactly why it stays a real question, not a settled one.
Signal. The spectrograms are real — you can watch bright vertical bursts flare across them, and the famous images come from a genuine instrument (the Tomsk observatory).
Noise. The fundamental has not moved — it's pinned by $c$ and $R$. The "spikes" are ordinary lightning transients and interference read off a live spectrogram, not a shift in the resonance itself.
Kill test. Has the measured 7.83 Hz fundamental changed over decades of continuous data? No. The planet is the same size it was.
Signal. The alpha-band overlap is real and genuinely intriguing — two very different systems happen to have a rhythm near 8 Hz.
Noise. A coincidence of scale is not a channel. There's no dose, no mechanism, and no reproducible therapeutic effect — the shared number does nothing on its own.
Kill test. Controlled 7.83 Hz "entrainment" trials against a health outcome. No reproducible effect has survived — the tell of a claim that forbids no result.
Notice the sift again: the real layer makes a prediction and someone measured it; the open layer names a test still worth running; the overclaims fail on the physics — a resonance you can compute from a planet's radius is not a message from a rising Earth. The mystics were wrong about the mechanism and right about the mood.
